Move or hand over your Web3 name

A Web3 name sits in a wallet and can move to another one, your own or someone else’s. The steps are short. The checks before them matter more.

What a transfer is

Because the name is held in your wallet, moving it works like moving any other item on a blockchain: you send it from one wallet address to another and confirm the transaction. Once it is confirmed, the receiving wallet controls the name and all its records.

A transfer is final. There is no registrar to call and no cancellation window. If the name goes to the wrong address, the only way back is for the holder of that address to send it back.

Moving it to a new wallet of your own

01

Set up and back up the new wallet first

Write down its recovery phrase and test it, as in guide 01, before anything is sent to it.

02

Copy the address from the new wallet

Read it on the screen of the new wallet itself. Do not take it from a message, an email or a search result.

03

Send the name

In the provider’s dashboard or in your wallet, choose to transfer the name and paste the new address. Check the first and last six characters before confirming.

04

Update the records

The receiving address record does not change by itself. If payments should now go to the new wallet, update it and send a test payment.

Handing it to another person

Agree the terms in writing

If you give or sell the name, write down who receives it, at which address, and what is exchanged. This protects both sides.

Clear your own records

Remove profile details and links you do not want to pass on. The new holder can change everything after the transfer.

Send last, not first

If money is involved, the usual safe order is for the payment to be confirmed before the name is sent. Some marketplaces hold both sides until the exchange completes.

Nobody needs your recovery phrase to receive a name

A real buyer or helper needs only a wallet address. Anyone who asks for your recovery phrase, asks you to sign something you do not understand, or pushes you to transfer first is attempting a scam. Guide 02 describes these patterns.

Questions

Does a transfer cost anything?

It is a transaction, so on some networks it carries a small network fee. There is no transfer charge from us.

Do the records move with the name?

Yes. The records belong to the name, so the new holder receives them as they are and can change them. Remove anything personal before you send it.

Can I get a name back after sending it?

Only if the person holding the receiving address sends it back. Check the address before confirming.

Is a Web3 name an investment?

We do not present it as one. A name is worth what it does for you today. Whether anyone else would pay for it is not something we can promise.
